2024 Share the Love Gift Card Drive
Department of Social Services leaders across the region recently shared with our Foster Care & Adoption Networks that they have an urgent need for gift cards for basic needs like groceries and fuel for transportation.
In response, we've put together a gift card drive, "Share the Love," that can easily be run by local churches. On February 11 & 18 (Sundays), families in each congregation are encouraged to bring a gift card (or a financial donation) to help others. Grocery cards and fuel cards will be given in $50 increments; fast food cards will be given in $20 increments. For Richmond's Network Leaders will collect the the cards and deliver them to your local department of social services for use in your specific community.
Participation in the Share the Love Gift Card Drive will facilitate life-changing outcomes for the families of Metro Richmond. Social Services departments are reporting increased needs from the families they serve, and sometimes, all it takes to help a family and give them hope is a gift card towards healthy groceries, fuel for transportation, or a hot meal.
Each family in your congregation is encouraged to give one gift card to another family in their community. Luke 6:38 states, "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” We consider that the gifts we provide will open ways to preserve families, strengthen communities, and reflect God's generosity.
If you choose to become a part of the Share the Love campaign, please accept gift cards from your congregations on February 11th and/or February 18th. Simply recommend grocers, gas stations and restaurants within your community. All gift cards will be distributed to each locality’s Department of Social Services.
